1956 Type 1 DDR PF69 Proof 69 Franklin VP-001 Half Dollar NGC. At This Time This Double Die Reverse (VP-001) is Exceptionally Scarce. NGC has Graded a Total of 44, With Just Six (6) in PF69 and None Higher. The Type 1 reverse was used for a smaller percentage of this year's proof half dollars. Making this coin that much more rare.
The Franklin Half Dollar was minted from 1948 to 1963. The coin pictured Benjamin Franklin on the obverse and the Liberty Bell on the reverse. A small eagle to the right of the bell was necessitated by law. A bill rushed through Congress after the assassination of John F.Caused the Franklin half to be replaced by the current Kennedy half dollar in February 1964. Nine years before the design would otherwise have been eligible for a change.
